The old cable lock for my mountain bike finally gave out, and I shouldn't complain since it's frequently out in the weather. The key mechanism just quit functioning, though it had been lubricated regularly. But I wanted a simpler more modular solution as a replacement, and this Wordlock 5-Letter Combination Spanish Language Padlock in black provided just that, with a light level of additional security.

Have bought these Wordlock products before, but this time I bought it here on Amazon with the Master Lock Self Coiling Cable which is a 6-foot (1.8m) woven steel cable that's covered with a medium-gray protective coating to prevent scratching the bike's paint. Since this is for use in low-to-medium theft risk areas, the 5/16" (8mm) thickness seems adequate for the job, and it's self-coiling for easy storage convenience around the bike's seat post.

But this lock is fascinating in that you can set your own combination using words, and not often confusing number combinations. This padlock provides 100,000 combinations, using four-letter and five-letter word combinations using five non-removable dials, and they are easy to set. And what makes this particular combination interesting is that it's in the Spanish language. The word 'candado' is Spanish for padlock, as you'' see in the bilingual instructions.

If you have anyone in your family who has some knowledge of Spanish, at any level, then this may be a perfect lock for them. Not only is it a especially secure padlock, with a hardened steel shackle for strength and security, it has four or five word/letter combinations... in Spanish, adding an interesting additional layer of security to an already robust lock.

The clearly illustrated instruction sheet is well written, and the directions are side to side bilingual in both English and Spanish. A final bilingual precaution notes: "El candado WORDLOCK solo se puede abrir con su combinacion. Para garantizar el maximo de seguridad, no existe una combinacion maestra." This means: "The WORDLOCK padlock can only be opened with your combination. To ensure maximum security there is no master combination." Obviously it's a good idea to write your word down and put it in a safe place, which is also suggested by the instructions.

Wordlock offers a very straightforward limited lifetime guarantee on their products, stating that they warrant that the lock will remain operational during normal use for as long as you own the lock. It does exclude the inability to open your lock as a result of your loss of the combination, so be sure to note it somewhere. For now the simplicity of this unique combination lock and the cable fits my needs.

It's been said many times that the purpose of a lock is to keep honorable people honest, and in that I agree. The fact that it's a resettable word lock instead of one with numbers makes it more convenient, and the Spanish version is a personal layer of language security in an area where the English language dominates.

I was really excited to get this lock for my gym locker. I set the password with no problem, but there are several things I dislike about this product:

1. You can't close the lock unless the password is lined up perfectly, which is really annoying. It slides out of place so easily.
2. The dials are kind of rough on the fingers.
3. The shape of the lock makes it difficult to access when it's securing something.

After one use I am fed up with this product. Guess I'll stick with the old fashioned combination lock.

great product. Very sturdy. Easy for my 11 year old to use at school and less of a chance to forget the combo.
