I did a lot of research on a small safe, great fire protection AND security. I looked at the usual ones you can buy local. They are nice but no comparison to Mesa safes. I wanted bigger, but trying to stay under a cost that would return what I might pay for a bank deposit box in a few years. The MSF55e is a perfect size for me. It weighs >200lb and will soon be bolted fast to the floor. It's not going anywhere. I suppose one could torch their way in, but that or C4 is the only way to break in. Very thick steel outside is what you expect in a safe. The electronic combo is very convenient. I had a little trouble at first changing the combo, but got it after a little. I love it.

After considering many safes, I opted for the Mesa MFS55E, and I have not been disappointed. It is solidly built and heavy enough that anyone wanting to make off with it better bring along some serious muscle for help.

I would deduct half a star if I could for the weakness of the audible alarm. It is not very loud and probably cannot be heard other than in the immediate area. Put in my garage, where this safe goes, if someone broke in and triggered its alarm, the sound would never reach outside of the garage and as such would produce no more than a laugh from the would-be thieves.

It's real strength is its weight. Of course, it comes with the ability to bolt it to the floor, but if that is not an option for you for some reason, its weight alone should provide you with a great deal of security. Two thumbs up on this one.

I purchased this safe afraid that it would come damaged because of shipping but it arrived strapped to its own pallet with no damage. I purchased from safeandvault store because it was the lowest price. I never spoke to them but mesa contacted me to confirm my order and I was also contacted by the freight company about delivery which was nice. The safe so far has worked perfectly although I haven't tested the key bypass because I couldn't get the concealed door to pop off but I haven't taken the time to try again. It also came with an external battery pack in case the batteries on the safe die so really it doesn't even need the keys but it is a nice feature. You just put batteries in the pack, plug it into the safe and it comes back to life so you can open it and change the batteries which I think is a pretty cool feature. It is also very easy to program. The bolt down instructions were not very good but it shouldn't be to hard to figure out. This safe is solid, no plastic walls and it is heavy so you will need someone to help you move it. Overall for the price, I am satisfied. If I have any problems in the future I will update this post but so far so good.
