The stretchy material and thin leather grips make this glove great for almost all tasks. You won't have the same precision as a bare hand obviously but this glove comes pretty close while providing good protection from cuts, blunt trauma, and vibration. I'm on my 2nd pair because I wore out my first.
I would caution against using this glove when handling splintery wood or anything with lots of sharp points. I experienced a splinter which fairly easily penetrated the stretchy material. For these situations, I would use a 100% leather glove.
Update Feb 2011: I've now worn out my 2nd pair - the stretchy material at the thumb ripped apart. These gloves work and feel great but prepare to replace them regularly if you use them a lot.

This glove combines the durability of a heavy duty work glove with the dexterity of a quality mechanics glove. The 'goat skin' palm and fingers is much thicker than previous Mechanix gloves I've owned in the past and seems like it's going to stand up to the wear and tear and also the chemical damage that I am constantly placing on my gloves. I am a helicopter mechanic and these gloves have so far proved their worth plus some!! A great buy...
This is one of the best all around construction/work gloves I have used the double layer of leather on the finger tips wears much better than any synthetic material based gloves I have used in the past 5-10 years.
I bought 2 pairs of this glove about 3 years ago for around $32 a pair. THOSE gloves were great, 3/4's of each finger and the entire palm reinforcement were leather w/ reinforced leather finger tips. One pair went to work immediately on demolition, material handling and other general construction tasks. That pair held together well for close to 6 months, the second pair for about 5. I thought, "Finally, a Mechanix glove that won't disintegrate the first week of use", so I set out to buy more Mechanix CG gloves and found that since I'd gotten the first pairs they'd changed the materials in these. Now the same glove only has leather on the working side of the fingers (1/4), the fingertips are now reinforced with synthetic material and the only leather on the palm is the padded strip (look at the image I posted to see what I mean) I hesitantly bought this version which lasted for 5-6 weeks, (the average lifespan of cheaper Mechanix gloves). Needless to say, I regretted not having bought an entire case of these when they first appeared but who could've known the quality would've suffered so drastically in so short a time. All in all, the ones pictured/for sale here, are just ok, they cost less than before and look cool but wtf does that do for us when they'll look like hobo's gloves in a few weeks.
Wore them while doing some yard work; mowing the lawn, weed eating, some raking and shoveling. Wore these gloves while scrapping paint and doing some repair work around the garage. In less than 2 weeks, wore holes in them. These gloves are not very durable. Not worth the price paid.
they lasted longer before wearing holes in the thumbs.
I'm just an enthusiastic DIY'ing homeowner. I use these gloves for various projects, from framing and building, to operating various lawn care equipment, to loading and unloading lumber, etc. Nothing crazy. I'd call my usage just moderate.
I'm on my second pair of these gloves. I'm in agreement with the rest of the reviewers for the most part with regard to comfort, protection and dexterity, however, these gloves just don't last as long as they should.
It's that area between the tip of the thumb and the pad of the thumb on the palm wears out waaaaaaay too fast because it's made of that suedey stuff instead of the leather used on the fingers. So what you end up with is flappy thumbs, and that's no good. No one likes flappy thumbs, do they?
I tried cutting the flappy thumbs off on an older pair once I bought my second pair. Eh. Just not the same. Plus, thumbs need protection, too. Suppose I could have gone the old duct tape/cloth tape route, but come on, these gloves aren't exactly cheap, are they.
I've contacted MW about this. If they're getting enough similar reports, I hope they redesign the glove, because I do enjoy that it is relatively light weight and breathable.
My next glove will be the Commercial Grade Heavy Duty, that has an all leather palm and fingers.
just my .02

The goat skin is only on the underside of the fingers. The sides, top, thumb and palm are normal leather by the looks. They fit my smaller hands okay, but I turned them inside out and sewed up some excess material for a snugger fit. There I noticed Kevlar stitching in some areas, a nice touch. I also found several thread ends (not loose threads) which I melted flat with a lighter. I'm replacing four struts on my Subaru this weekend and can't wait to try these things out.
I think these will last a long time.

I have a very hard time finding gloves that fit, and more so HD work gloves.
I bought my first pair of these from Cabela's, which just started to wear through the finger this week moving some concrete blocks.
Since they no longer carry them, I researched the brand to find out which glove it was. These gloves are great.
I generally wear a 2XL with most being on the tight side including the last pair I bought. I find this to run on the large size, having room to spare.
Thrilled to have found these, as well as being offered by Amazon!

These gloves are very comfortable and feel better than any traditional leather glove. But they are pretty high maintenance. After the first day I was already using a sewing kit to stitch up the palm. After a couple of jobs it looked like I sewed them myself from all the reinforcing I had to do to keep them in one piece. It Has a lot of small layers of leather that come apart too easily. They are good for light work... and look cool. But that's about it.
So far a good product. Fits well, holds of to digging trails with hand tools. Don't count on for warmth (tried that once). Tag says I can't wash them - disaapointed in that, but I guess the leather makes that so. May try it anyway after awhile - if they get ruined, they're cheap enough to replace.
I am used to going through gloves at least once a month. I used these on a daily basis for 5 months in a desert environment and they still work like new. Great materials and very comfortable.
I first priced these gloves out at my local L0we$ store, these same gloves are $32.00
So amazon is definitely the cheapest in town! Where the gloves have a drawback is they really arent designed to be wet or washed for that matter. I was looking for a pair of mechanics gloves I could wear, and dont get me wrong, these are nice gloves, but I am going to keep these for just work around the house.
The large size is a bit snug but not tight. The XL fit great, but have insanely long fingers. So only time will tell how the large hold up.

I bought these for my wife as I have a pair and they are the best protection glove I have found. My wife loves them. We have been clearing some trees and brush around our place. She stated that out of all the gloves she used these worked the best.
We highly recommend them.
We highly recommend them.
I bought these because I lost my utility gloves (FirmGrip kind - $15) at work. I'm a firefighter and these feel very good for everyday task such as rolling/handling hose, operating ladders, etc. - not including rescue/extrication/fire tasks. The leather is strong but flexible and comfortable. Amazon sells it much cheaper than the retail.
ive been renovating our "new" 1874 home and within 5 weeks of framing, they now have holes and rips in them. i wouldnt recommend these.
I use these gloves at work and they are very comfortable and durable. The impact pads on the outside are excellent and the leather palms and fingertips are seriously tough! They are very comfortable to be worn for extended times and durable enough for most jobs. I use them for just about everything!
We purchased two pairs, one large, one small for the lady. They are great for dogboarding, we did notice upon receiving them that both pairs are slightly miss-shaped, padding is not trimmed well neither inside nor out... we felt it was worth noting as my lady's especially had one of the two that was noticeably tighter than the other. They have, in my honest opinion stretched out a bit after a use (we dogboard with them and this puts a demand on your hands)- after another use or two we'll rate the small pair on amazon, and that'll be more directed at her opinion. Peace.
Tired of the easy wear and tear of my Firm Grips, I left them in my tool bucket and put on my chaps and then the Mech Wear. Two hours and fifteen trees down later, I realized I found a leather glove that offers the durability and flexibility I was looking for. Actually, I'm still hoping on the durability as these gloves have a lot of work to do. Time will tell if they can handle the stress of building a sustainable farm.
The grip is good and the fit is snug if you match up your size right. I suppose the padding may help me avoid some hand contusions once I begin the rock work projects I have to do; extra protection always grants piece of mind.
Overall, I'm pleased for now. But will be ecstatic if the Mech Wear is still going strong come the end of the next fall season.

I am a commercial electrician and I go through gloves pretty quickly.
I've had these about 5 weeks, and they are still in decent shape. A couple
holes, but these are double layered so no skin showing. They haven't worn
out in the typical places yet. Other gloves would have been trashed by now.
These gloves have held up the best so far out of the gloves I've tried.
Excellent quality, I will buy Mechanix gloves again.

I bought these before remodelling a bathroom and they are great. I have not had any cuts or scrapes while handling splintered wood with nails sticking out or sharp pieces of tile. The back mesh is fairly breathable and keeps them flexible enough to do moderately fine work, but I see these as being best for protection.
I got these in order to use for around the house work and chores. Ever since I scraped my knuckles up building window screens for the house I invested in several work gloves and finally went with these that have added protection along the fingers. I only wish the protection material was a little bit wider and thicker for more coverage area around the fingers and knuckles. Overall it's a great pair of gloves that still allow finger flexibility and dexterity!
I just want to say that these gloves are great. They are strong, protect your plams and other side of hand and to mention...great look to.I would use them for two weeks straight, then HAND wash them and they look like brand new again....and ready to go.
Good product. Good for general use. I bought them because I'm belt sanding painted rough hewn siding on the house. The rough work will caused the material part to wear. That is to be expected as I didn't use them for what I believe they are designed for. Great for work using power tools and outside chores. Very comfortable and better than using bare hands. I just got tired of the minor scrapes, cuts and burns after all these years of home ownership and decided to spend the cash and these gloves fit the bill. Tight and flexible and not restrictive.
